Europe attractions and car rental options

Top places to see in Europe? Thanks to centuries of makeovers, the Chateau de Versailles can claim the title of most sumptuous pad in Paris. Once a modest hunting lodge, the building has grown with each resident and has 2,300 rooms that have housed various French royalty over the years. The majority of the lavish work was commissioned by Louis XIV in 1678, who is responsible for adding the wondrous Hall of Mirrors, as well as the elegant and expansive grounds. It can get busy at peak times, so book a skip-the-line ticket beforehand and arrive early.

For the love of Nature, one should visit Kornati National Park. To be honest, travel to Croatia doesn’t make much sense for tranquility-hunters unless they visit the Kornati Archipelago that is very often dubbed as nautical paradise. About 140 islands make up this National Park where dramatic caverns, cliffs, and caves of the tight-knit isles throw an awful lot of challenges. These islands are mostly made of Karst Limestone and offer excellent opportunities for hiking. Yes, for those tourists who love some real excitement, sailing through the National Park adds a whole new dimension. For those who are not big enthusiasts of ‘sail alone’ opportunity, the National Park offers guided tours from Split, Sibenik, and Zadar.

For those looking for a little ancient history, the Netherlands is not without its own medieval (and earlier) attractions. Romantic little Valkenburg, in the picturesque Geul Valley, boasts the country’s only hilltop castle. Long a popular holiday resort, the town’s other big draws are its many caves and the spa facilities at Thermae 2000, one of the largest such establishments in the Netherlands. In addition to the ruins of the 12th-century castle on Dwingelrots (Castle Rock), there’s also the interesting 14th-century St. Nicolaaskerk Basilica. Another highlight is the town’s famous Christmas Market (mid-November to December 23rd) held in the Velvet Caves, the maze of old passageways leading to and from the castle.

For tragic reasons, Anne Frank has become one of the most famous figures in European history and this museum is a dedication to her. This is a writer’s house and a biographical museum that is located next to a canal called the Prinsengracht in central Amsterdam. The museum is housed in the 17th-century building where Anne Frank and her family hid from Nazi persecution during World War II. Although Frank did not survive the war, the diary that she wrote throughout the war was published in 1957. The block where the museum is located was intended for demolition. However, the Anne Frank Foundation purchased the property in 1957 to prevent this from happening. The museum opened to the public in 1960. The hiding place of Frank’s family has been preserved and it has two main exhibitions; one that is devoted to the life and times of Anne Frank and another which is about all forms of discrimination and persecution. The museum averages 1.3 million visitors a year. Read even more info on es.autoeurope.com.
